I am talking to you today from the capital of France. Paris is a very large city with very few trees. It has some amazing buildings and special places to visit. We went to the Louvre which is an art gallery. It has an unusual glass pyramid out the front which everyone has fun with when taking their photos.
Of course we visited the Eiffel Tower and went up to the second level in an elevator. We didn’t go all the way to the top because it was night time and everything would have looked so small we wouldn’t be able to see very much. The Eiffel Tower at night time is even more beautiful than in the day. They light it with lovely golden lights. A special surprise for us was at 12 midnight, we were having an ice cream under the tower when it suddenly started to sparkle like fireworks. It was bigger and more beautiful than I could every have imagined.
We climbed to the top of the tower in a lovely church called the Sacrè Coeur (lots of stairs again), and looked over Paris. I noticed that many of the buildings in Paris are exactly the same height. There was a group of taller buildings and then poking way out above everything was the Eiffel Tower. Everything looked pale brown as many of the buildings are made out of stone.
On another day, James and I went to the Catacombs. This was a quarry but when they had mined all the rocks they needed, they decided to fill the holes under the ground with very old bones from very old graves. They needed the space that the cemeteries were using so they very carefully moved the bones into the catacombs. Very eerie!
